Last weekend our students once again demonstrated that Edlin School is the home of amazing students and champions, and provides one of the best Science programs available in the area. On Saturday, February 25, Edlin was pleased to send two teams of wonderful students to the 12th Annual Foxcroft STEM Challenge in Middleburg, Va. This annual event brought together 20 teams of female students from 10 schools in the northern Virginia area to compete in a series of ST EM-based challenges, including Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, and Coding. The all-day event tested the girls’ ability to analyze problems, collaborate with teammates, develop and communicate ideas, create solutions, manage time, and evaluate successes. This year’s theme was “Go Green,” and each challenge related to an aspect of environmental science. The event was sponsored by Stryker Spine, and was mentored by a fantastic group of female mechanical engineers and bioengineers, who design and develop technology used in spinal repair surgeries.
Team 1, The Super Supernovas, included 8th Graders Varsha, Lyla, Anya, and 7th Grader Maya. These amazing girls brought home the Overall 1st Place Gold Medal, and were crowned the Team Champions at the event for winning 1st Place in the Physics Challenge, 1st Place in the Chemistry Challenge, and 3rd Place in the Biology Challenge.
Team 2, The Wonderful Windmills, included 8th Grader Eesha, and 7th Graders Ava, and Maita. These incredible girls won 3rd place in the Physics Challenge, and performed admirably in every event.
At Edlin, we are a community of dedicated teachers, students, and families. It is because of the efforts of everyone involved that our students are able to take part in competitions, demonstrate knowledge, solve problems, win medals, and be successful in everything they do. We would like to thank all of our teachers, and our parents, who challenge our students to think through and solve problems, and help to bring out the best in our amazing young scientists.
Congratulations to both of our incredible teams and Mr. Epp! We are looking forward to next year’s competition.
